Additional Kill Phil: The Fast Track to Success in No-Limit Hold 'em Poker Tournaments Information

Divulges the real strategies used by professional poker players to consistently win major (and minor) no-limit hold 'em tournaments. With poker tournaments televised on more than a dozen television networks and internet poker sweeping the nation, the popularity of the game is at an all-time high. Everyone thinks they have a shot, as evidenced by the 5,600+ player field in the $10,000 main event at the 2005 World Series of Poker in Las Vegas. If these weekend warriors hope to win, they'd better know the same strategies that the pros use. Authors Blair Rodman and Lee Nelson, both poker professionals, spill the beans about the strategies they (and most of the big-name poker players) use to keep scooping the pots.

What Customers Say About Kill Phil: The Fast Track to Success in No-Limit Hold 'em Poker Tournaments:

And it suggests that you study and improve further. One that can frustrate even Phil Hellmuth, Phil Ivey or any other "Phil" out there. And even if I don't use it, I would like to be aware of it, just in case an opponent does use it instead. can understand what kind of hand you are at, and how to outplay you.If you fall in that category, there is nothing to be ashamed for (we all were novices at some time) but you have to protect yourself. And this is how you do it.I have actually seen so many poker stars on various TV shows mentioning the importance of this book and how it affected the games play (since it helped a lot their opponents, especially "fishes") that I could not ignore it.So does it do what it promises.Yes it does.It gives you an effective way of dealing with the Pros, the bullies, the tough opponents, if you have not the experience or the ways yet to deal with them.It also tells you of its imperfections, its weaknesses, its limitations. OK, I have read some books out there and I had some initial thoughts about the need for such a book. This book is for the beginners or the inexperienced ones in big tournaments and confrontations with big players. Daniel told him " I call you cause I have to, since I know that if I don't you will just keep doing this all the time." And it shows why Daniel is such a great player, but also why this strategy is so effective. And I know that if I ever get into the Big Game and feel that I am in danger of being outplayed by the sharks, this one is a BIG weapon in my hands.

I know that this one is a simple strategy guide, not suited for all sircumstances, otherwise everybody would know and use it everywhere.

That's the most honest thing I have read ever.

by an opponent going all-in on me on every hand heads up.

You know, the type of players that ask you how much you've got (chips in your stack, they mean) and just by the way you answer (not the anwser itself).

Cause then I wouldn't be really frustrated i.e.

Knowing that you have a strategy that is NOT perfect, NOT ideal for all situations, but it is a GREAT one for specific situations, is of crusial importance.

I know I don't need to be a KP with my friends playing at home.

I would simply understand his strategy and play accordingly. There is a quote in the book, from Daniel Negreanu doing exactly that: Deciding to call an opponent that was going all-in on him heads up in every single hand.

Imagine the tough position such a player is getting at, against a possible fish using KP strategy.Need I say more.

Before, I was usually losing my chips just before the final table, but with the tactics explained in this book, I have managed to bully my way through and go into the final table with a very sizeable stack. After playing for 4 years prior to reading this, this book has taught me things I would have never even thought of doing previous to it. I was recommended to get this book a good friend and a very well know world Poker player Nic Szeremeta. Since reading Kill Phil, I have made 5 out of 7 final tables in my local Casino Tournaments and won 3 in total. I would recommend to anyway who is a keen Poker player, whether you are just starting or have been playing for a long time, get this book. It really does help.

Great concepts. And the sequal is good too. I won the next three live tournaments when I used these strageties, and have won good money online too. I hope no one buys this book so I can beat you at the tables.

"Kill Phil" expounds a formulaic approach to evening the playing field between beginners and very good players. In a nutshell, Kill Phillers pick up a lot of small pots and lose a lot of big ones. So if you use this approach in your home game or local daily tournament you won't get far.

They were simply giving rank amateurs the tools necessary to sit at a table with the best in the world and avoid playing "their" game. And if your goal is to spend a few more hours with your heroes, then by all means, employ the strategy of this book.I am awarding this book 3 stars simply by the fact that it will help an aspiring poker player immediately notice if someone is trying to use the Kill Phil or some similar method at the tables. Their second book, "Kill Everyone" is for players actually wanting to get better.I don't feel the authors were proposing serious players use this method a long term strategy.

People who can't lay down top pair or a top 10% hand preflop (no matter the action) will take you out very very fast. And if you happen to go on a heater and make the final 2 tables or so, the good players there will recognize what you are doing and destroy you long before you get close to the big money. However, if by sheer luck you happen to win a seat to the WSOP and have never played poker much before (through a satellite, freeroll, or whatever), then maybe this book will let you finish in the top 60% vs the top 90%. which is strong postflop play. As a quick fix, it does the job.The major flaw in the book is that only 1% or less of the poker population are actually good players.

You also should read it before reading their Kill Everyone which references this book multiple times. While this book doesn't really address how to attack a player using the Kill Phil style, other books have. In their attempt to avoid postflop play, they end up getting trapped either before or after the flop anyways. So I definitely recommend reading this book to expand your overall poker knowledge, but if you are serious about getting better at the game, do not employ its strategies unless its for experimentation only.If you actually want to get better at poker, read the Harrington on Hold'em series to gain a basic understanding of the game and then move on to something advanced, like Snyder's books or Kill Everyone, to learn how to destroy your opponents.

It's difficult to sit at the table waiting for AA or KK to make your move - you only get those every 22 hands or so although there are better chances of that happening online. The authors make it very clear that the Kill Phil strategy is very vulnerable at the early stages of a tournament when blinds are insignificant compare to stack sizes and there are no antes. Having read "Kill Everyone" - the sequel to this book - prior to this one I must admit that the strategy seemed too simple and I was skeptical at first. the hands you raise or check-raise to get value or trap.

It provides the ALL-IN move as the big gun to create confusion and frustration against pros who prefer to outplay you post-flop for your chips. Similar to the basic concept of this book (move in or fold) this reading might be love it or leave it but it provides a fresh approach to No Limit Hold'em. The strategy does evolve taking other factors into consideration (player style, position, stack size, pot odds). By the end of the book you'll take away some key concepts that anyone should include into their game. It is also stressed that players must have the courage to take risks to preserve and increase their chip count at all costs.

Then it goes into post-flop trapping, mixing up the hands you push vs. Moving in preflop is a very powerful weapon which takes any skill advantage out of the equation, but it should be used only in certain situations and not base your whole game around it. However the book states that this strategy is for inexperienced players up against good or even professional players in live tournaments. It even has an internet strategy modification due to the loose nature of online SNG play. This type of move is not for the faint hearted.Initially your limited to a few groups of hands with which you will go All-In with.

Post-flop play is discouraged to keep beginners out of trouble but they have to develop a lot of patience. I tried the strategy on several 1 table and multi table SNG and when I stuck to it I made the money almost every time. Since this method will be vulnerable when the blinds are low you'll either need to learn how to play the post-flop with other readings or pick your spots and make your move.
